    problem with recording an animation

    Hello,

I want to record an animation in postView. I follow steps in PostView_2.3 user manual (Section 4.3). After selection of capture frame and start the recording an animation. The result, the video as well as pictures do not capture selected capture frame. Do I have to play with position of camera?

    Regards,
    Nat

    Hi Nat,

It seems to be working correctly as far as I can tell so I'm not sure what the problem could have been for you. Some suggestions:

    - Make sure that you keep the capture frame visible during the animation and do not change its properties (position and size).
    - The capture frame should turn red when you are recording. If it's yellow, nothing is being recorded.
    - Make sure you stop the recording properly (menu Record\Stop; capture frame should turn yellow again). Only at that point, the video file will be closed properly.

If none of this helps, let us know what PostView version, OS, and video format you are using and we can try to look into it a bit further.

    Cheers,

      Hi Steve,

My steps in postView are following:
1- show capture frame (yellow). I do not change position or size.
      2- record->new->video
3- start recording (capture frame turned colour from yellow to red)
      4- stop recording

Video did not capture the frame and only captured the left side corner of the frame.
PostView version is Version 2.4.0, MacOs is Mojave version 10.14.4, video format is mpg.

Using this opportunity I also want to report some problems with preview:
1- cannot open my stl files via Preview (preview is closing up)
2- cannot open some .feb files (these .feb files which diverged or did not converge to solution) to fix them through PreView

      Cheers,
      Nataliya

        Hello

I'm experiencing some problem with recording the animation. First I set the capture frame and create a new video file (record -> new). And when I start recording, it says 'an error occurred while recording'. Could you please help me with this?

        Best Regards,
        Ishan

I am experiencing the same problem as NataCalc. I have the same version of Postview and MacOS 10.13.6. Did you ever find a solution?

                Doug

                  Hi Doug,

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this problem on my Mac (using PostView 2.4.0 and PostView 2.4.4, but on MacOS 10.14.6).

In the meantime I recommend that you use QuickTime Player to record PostView animations: File->New Screen Recording. The resolution is better than the builtin PostView mpeg routine and the file compression is excellent.

                  Best,

                  Gerard

                    Hi Doug and Ishan,

As far as I can tell, our latest 2.5 development version does not have these issues. If you reach out to me via email (steve dot maas at Utah dot edu), I can let you try this version and see if the problems persist. It would be nice if we can address any remaining issues with the recording feature before we release this version.

                    Cheers,

                    Steve
