    Tutorial 7: Heat Transfer Analysis

    Hi,

    I try to follow the tutorial of Heat Transfer Analysis ( http://help.mrl.sci.utah.edu/help/in...tml%2F2.7.html ).

    But after having exported to .feb (and changing the code . http://mrlforums.sci.utah.edu/forums...hp?issueid=704 ) and run FEBio2, my results in PostView seem different from those shown on Figure 13 ( http://help.mrl.sci.utah.edu/help/to...s/image045.gif ). Especially the maximum temperature and the shape of the temperature gradient.

    Please find the feb file and a snapshot of my screen in PostView.

    Hi Antoine,

    It seems you applied the convective heat flux bc to the xy face instead of the xz face. After reading the tutorial again I can see that this is a bit confusing and we'll try to clarify the language a bit more. It was meant to be a 2D analysis, so you shouldn't have any variation in the z-direction. Let us know if that solved the problem.

        Hi, when I try to export my prv file to a feb file compatbile with FEBio 2.5, I get "Could save project to FEBio file: Invalid reference to mesh item list when exporting: HeatSource01".

        Exporting for febio 2.0 does work, but how could I get it to work for 2.5?

          Hi,

          This looks like a bug in PreView. I'll see if I can fix it. In the mean time, here is a possible work around:

          - export the file as 2.0
          - remove the heat source
          - export the file as 2.5
          - Copy the body_load section from the 2.0 feb file to the 2.5 feb file.

          I will let you know when this issue is fixed.

            Hello Steve,
            I am trying to run tutorial 7 on the new FEBio, but I keep getting an error that reads "FATAL ERROR: unrecognized tag "control" (line 5)".
            Can you please help me with this?

              Hi Shima,

              For heat transfer analysis you need to download the FEBioHeat plugin from our website. Notice that this plugin requires FEBio version 2.9. To load the plugin you either add it on the command line with the -import tag, or you add it to the configuration file. Please see chapter 9 of the FEBio user manual. Let us know if you have any problems getting this to work.
