    bending an imported gmsh mesh

    Hi all,

I have been unable to "bend" (about an axis) an editable Gmsh mesh.
    (see file attached).
I used the 'add modifier' function, and chose "bend" (to bend the mesh
by 30 degrees about the X-axis), but was unsuccessful.
Is there a way to bend an imported Gmsh mesh?
    Thanks.

    Hey Daniel,

Not sure why that feature isn't working but I'll try to fix it this week. I'll keep you posted.

    Cheers,

      Hi Daniel,

I think I was able to get the modifiers going again. Check out the new version of PreView (1.5.1. WinXP) and give it a try. Let me know if you still run into problems.

      Cheers,

      Steve.

        Hi Steve,

yes, bending is possible now - but only for an imported Gmsh file that has not been partitioned, and does not have different material properties assigned to the different parts (in PreView). If yes, all material properties assigned to different parts get lost (at least, when I tried it - with the file I attached at the start of the thread).

It would be a really cool feature if you could bend a Gmsh mesh that has already been partitioned, with different material parts.
        Cheers
        Daniel.

Have you tried to start from the GMsh file instead of the prv file? After the change the preview file may be corrupted. If yes, can you please send me the GMsh file so that I can reproduce the problem?

          Thanks,

          Steve.

            Hi Steve,

see attached the preview file. The mesh is bent nicely,
but the original partition information seems to be lost
(refer to the file I uploaded at the start of the thread
where the mesh was divided into three material layers).
            cheers
            Daniel.

              Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the model. This is so strange. I'm not sure where the problem lies, but I'll keep looking. I'll keep you posted when I find something.
